Unable to send emails through the SBCGlobal email account

I can receive emails but cannot send them. Why is that?

There may be some reasons why you cannot send emails:

  • Make sure that your outgoing mail server in your POP client points to smtp.yourdomainname.com (where yourdomainname.com is your domain name).
  • Some Internet providers have begun blocking port 25 in an attempt to prevent direct spamming to MX and abuse of open relays and proxy servers by their dial-up and broadband clients. For Sbcglobal.net email settings, please contact us via our support number.

This means that email clients cannot contact the mail server of the hosting account directly to send outgoing emails. However, receiving emails works fine.

To avoid this, clients have to put the name of their ISP's mail server in their mail client settings on their PC so that mail can be forwarded from the ISP's mail server to their account's mail server of accommodation and the recipient. The email still shows that it comes from the correct sender's email address, not the ISP's domain name.

Here is a list of some of the sbcglobal ISPs that do this and their mail server names:

  • AT&T: mailhost.att.net http://www.att.net
  • BellSouth.net: mail.bellsouth.net http://www.bellsouth.net

If you are trying to send to Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail or another externally hosted account and the emails are not being sent to the respective inbox, please check spam, junk or bulk folder.

For example:

If your forwarding address is a hotmail account, check the sensitivity of the spam filter. Hotmail says that "... at the enhanced and exclusive levels, spam messages are occasionally identified as spam. Check your spam folder regularly to make sure spam has not moved there."

If your forwarding address is a Yahoo account, go to the Bulk folder and check if Yahoo's SpamGuard is activated. Yahoo says that "... While we do our best to send requested commercial and non-commercial emails directly to your inbox, an spam message may occasionally be sent to your Bulk folder. For this reason, we recommend that the recipient reviews this folder periodically to make sure that important messages are not lost. "

NOTE: As an alternative to checking your email using a POP client, we suggest that you use the Horde or Squirrel email available from your CPanel in "Email". For Sbcglobal email login problem, contact official support helpdesk.
